Day of fast & abstinance -- Ashes distributed at all Masses

ASH WEDNESDAY, LENT AND 40 DAYS FOR LIFE
The 40 Days of Lent begin this Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, traditionally St. Valentine’s Day.  Masses are at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. School Mass, 12:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.  Ashes will be distributed at all the Masses that day.  Lent is an opportunity to seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in doing a spiritual “make-over” of our lives.  We use prayer, fasting and almsgiving as our tools in the renovation of our inner selves.  Remember the precept of the Church to abstain from meat on all the Fridays of Lent and to fast and abstain on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.  Let us make this Lent a real preparation for a true celebration of the joys of Easter.  We also begin the 40 Days for Life on Ash Wednesday and join in the national prayer effort to end abortion in America.  Annunciation Parish is scheduled to lead the prayer vigil in front of Planned Parenthood on San Mateo on Tuesday, February 20th and Friday, March 23rd.  May our prayers, fasting and almsgiving touch many hearts this Lent and bring them to a truly joyful Easter!

LENTEN STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Beginning this Friday after Ash Wednesday, there will be Lenten Soup Suppers in the Community Center at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m.  Each Friday, the Stations will begin with a short meditation for our reflection on the “Last Words of Christ.”  Please take this opportunity to grow in the spirit of self-sacrifice as we make the Way of the Cross with Jesus and with one another.
